Albert Maysels by Barton Perreira

A great cameraman must have a great pair of eyes, and a great pair of eyes should be framed with a great pair of glasses.

Photo from here.

Albert Maysels (rhymes with hazels), the talented documentary filmmaker, has been the inspiration for these classic frames by Barton Perreira for Barneys exclusively. This is a very classic look that many people look very good in.

You really have to see this amazing tribute site to Al’s glasses!

Vasuma Inc.

Earlier this week we stopped by Vasuma‘s awesome head office and showroom in Old Town, Stockholm.

Cute Boy Band Photo: Vasuma Inc.

Vasuma Inc. is a Stockholm based brand founded by the cool guys Jan Vana, Steffen Sundström and Lars Malmsten. In 2007 they had their first eyewear line. Their eyewear collection, which has both optical and sun frames, is unisex, young, large and cool.

Fun fact: The English bullies’ favorite phrase “Four eyes” is “Eyewear snake” (Glasögonorm) to the Swedish bullies’. Therefore all of Vasuma’s frames are named after snakes. This is the eyewear snakes getting their revenge!

At Vasuma’s office we talked about the process of making a frame. There are many steps to reach the final product. As for any product to hold great quality, fit, style all of the steps have to work smothly. Some of our favorite Vasuma frames.

Vasuma is pretty new in eyewear but has already managed to establish their style and quality. This spring they’ll be at Mido for their first time and Bonocle wishes Vasuma all the best!

Barba Amarilla

As you might know by now, we have been visiting Vasuma to look at their latest news. Here is one of their coolest sunglasses, in a very special color: plum.

Barba Amarilla, Vasuma

First of all, isn’t it a great name? Almost Barbara ;). Second, it’s perfectly circular and has a soft purple nuance.  Me like!

Vasuma’s Lora

Yesterday Jasmin and I went to visit the Vasuma guys in Old Town, Stockholm. They showed us their latest collection and told us a lot about their brand values, which we’ll tell you more about later. Now, I’ll show you one of my favorite sunglasses from the new collection:

Lora, Vasuma.

I’m specifically fond of the green-tortoise one, it reminds me about the army look that we have shown for you before (HERE).

More to come!

Framework Posters

Framework has made these awesome limited posters.

I think everyone can recognize a few iconic frames that really are attatched to that evry person’s image and character such as Woody Allan’s, Kanye West‘s or Buddy Holly’s glasses. You can buy them here. I wish the DMC’s were made into one big poster or even a T-shirt.

They are all male actors, artists, musicians or politicians. Where are all the ladies?

Here is a collection of 28 iconic glasses.

01. Woody Allen 02. Kanye West 03. Buddy Holly 04. Michael Caine
05. Kurt Cobain 06. John Lennon 07. Geordi LaForge 08. Malcolm X

Barton Perreira X Chloë Sevigny For Opening Ceremony

Photos: Opening Ceremony

Oh, so adorable!

These over sized, perfect circle, sunglasses have a very carefree glamorous 70’s look that i really love and are avaliable in pechy pink or blue with a heart on each lens in a lighter shade. Not only do they look amazing, there’s a story behind them as well.

Chloë Sevigny got together with Barton Perreira when designing sunglasses for Opening Ceremony. The three models are all inspired by Andy Warhol’s superstar Candy Darling from the documentary Beautiful Darling. These round ones are named after the actress Candy herself.

E&E Sunglasses

This week we had the pleasure to meet the founders and designers behind the new eyewear brand E&E. The brand name comes from their names Erik  and Emilia. They are both from northern Sweden and all their sunglasses are named after different  Swedish summer resorts.

The sunglasses are all handmade in acetate. In the same factory as Ralph Lauren Eyewear. Despite all of this, the prices are very friendly and it might inspire you to go a little bit more crazy, or maybe buy two of them?

E&E “Båstad”

E&E “Falsterbo”

E&E “Ribban”

E&E “Falsterbo” and “Bettnes”

Jasmin and I like the brown “Falsterbo” with the faded glasses a lot and we think this one will be E&E’s bestseller! But, if you want to go more crazy, I would like to recommend the orange one, that color is just so happy and cool.

Leisure Society

Shane Baum has been in the eyewear business for 20 years. He is the president of Baum Vision, former designer for Louis Vuitton Eyewear and current designer of Paul Frank Eyewear, just to mention a few things. Needless to say he has exceptional taste in luxurios quality items. Mr. Baum’s new baby is Leisure Society.

Leisure Society is an high-end handmade luxury eyewear brand with both an optical and a sun collection.

The frames are tastefully detailed with etchings and they look rich, not in the bling way, rather in an “old money”-style. The sun collection holds exceptional quality where the lenses are 99.9% distortion-free and has a 12-layer anti-reflectiong coating. As an optometrist i think the lens quality is important but often times not thought of when buying expensive sunglasses. Of course the price is set even higher when the frames are wrapped in 12 k, 18 k and 24 k gold. Think of these frames as something that will last a lifetime, perhaps to be handed on to the next generations.

Sit back, relax and enjoy this beautiful video. Would you like to join their world too?
