New Marni

The new Marni frames I saw in Paris are probably the best collection so far. They are still very feminine and colorful but slightly larger, which will make them more weareable. The colors are red, blue, turquoise, yellow, green, puple, brown, beige and pastels. Most frames are a combination of transparent and opaque, matte and glossy or two-tone colored.

I instantly found my favorites:

Look at the fine details.

Love the color combination. No one does it like Marni.

Super awesome. Like a smiley face.

Beautiful matte frames.

Another favorite of mine.

Crystal Clear.

Saw this image and read a beautiful text here.

Have you ever tried to wear another persons prescription glasses? Sexiest jogger in all the land husband wears glasses and once I tried them on.

Everything was all blurry, it looked like the entire world shifted left like 5 feet..plus my head started to pound instantly. The longer I kept them on the worse it was. I thought maybe if I just blinked a whole bunch and moved my head around like a crazy person the world would suddenly come into focus.

There are times in my life that I have walked around (ok..bumped around) looking at the world through glasses that were not meant for me.

I remember the first time I read Artful Blogging Magazine. I was enraptured. There was such beautifully pink hued crafty stuff. So many cute ladies in skirts with dark eyed perfect looking children, leading seemingly perfect creative lives. (for the record I LOVE Artful Blogging..still buy every single issue!!)

So I thought I should try those glasses on..like maybe become a craft blogger. Of course, they did not really fit and I ended up with a headache and like 10 pounds of german glass glitter.

Or that time this last spring that I thought I could be the star of my recreational softball team.

Those glasses REALLY did not fit and I ended up with pretty severe injury and a majorly bruised EGO. Let’s just blame in on the blurry glasses..not my softball skills please.

Then you have those rare moments of clarity..and when I say rare, I really mean RARE. (for me anyway) (maybe you are just more awesome than me)(whatever)(quit your bragging)

There are those moments when you put on the next pair of glasses and the world is suddenly crystal clear. Everything pops with the intensity of the moment, you can feel the crackle of tension in the air..you know what you see, you know how to get it and everything else fades into the background..blurry and out of focus, like the glasses that didn’t fit..

It is then you come to the preverbal “fork in the road”.

Do you go back in the direction of ill-prescribed, out of focus thinking? (even though it might give you a head-ache..at least you know what to expect..it’s comfy..right?)

Or..do you surge forward? Towards clarity, made just for you and no one else focus? (but it’s sooo unknown! So scary! So out of my control! What will people think? What do I think? Help!!)

Today dear reader I mean to encourage you. Do you know that there is a pair of glasses out there that are custom made just for you?? My creator did not intend for me to love german glass glitter..and that is ok..really. Those were not my glasses..

I’m pretty sure that deep down in that sweet soul of yours you know what pair of glasses are made for you. They might be in the form of a little dream, a goal, something you have always read about, a “I could soo do that”, maybe a gentle nudge from above..

Girl..run to those glasses.

Put them on and never ever look back.

New Graz

In Paris I met Graz Mulcahy, one of my favorite eyewear designers. Awesome to finally meet him!

You can tell he’s been working hard because he had many of new great frames to show, both sunglasses and optical. They’re beautiful, bold and fun. The colors are tortoise, gray, black and a few matte ones.

Great collection, can’t wait to see people wear them!

On his nose: A new Graz frame. On his neckline: A Garrett Leight sunglass.

I’m also very excited about the new glasses with Windsor rings around the metal on the front, like the one below:

I have a pair of the Joel frame (like the one below) that i love because they are bold and perfectly round. I am very happy that Graz also makes them in titanum now, so they’re much lighter! They come as sunframes and optical.

Graz also made this genius poster showing in a humorous and detailed way how glasses are made:

If you din’t know, now you know. Temples are boxed in with a canon a few times.

New Theo

Bright colors! Bold shapes! Fun and Crazy. New yet timeless. Once you go Theo it’s hard to go back!

This is how I would describe Belgian eyewear brand Theo. The frames are sturdy and durable, the styles are bold and hard to place in a timeframe.

Theo had custom made Belgian chocolate made in a shape of a pair of round spectacles.

Love you right back!

At the fair…Silmo 2011

At Silmo in Paris I met many cool people with cool glasses and I saw a few creative displays. Here’s a mix of the best!

Lidia, the cutest girl of Silmo wearing MYKITA Holly in Pale Blue and Gold!

Fun and crazy frame balanced out by a soft color works great together!

An amazing Italian 1952 Piaggio Vespa at RockOptika.

MYKITA Mylon

The frames are made of just powder. Wait now, what? POWDER? Yes, Powder.

MYKITA presented their new series of Mylon Frames at Silmo in Paris. Mylon is like nothing else you’ve seen or touched before!

The first Mylon collection was fun and experimental while this new collection is wearable, sporty and more useable.

The material Mylon is very special and the making of these frames is not like any other. The shape is drawn in 3D in a computer, a laser beam then prints on powder made of Nylon in layers after layers. Where the laser hits, the Nylon melts and hardens. This allowes MYKITA to experiment with the shapes and make really advanced frames! Afterwards the front and temples are lifted out and most of the remaining Nylon powder can be reused again. The parts are softened, colored and treated so that the surface feels alost like wood (very comfortable against the skin!) and the parts are put together with MYKITA’s special screwless hinges. The color won’t rub off and the material is super durable, it can’t break, but all Mylon frames can be adjusted.

This collection is a little bit more sporty, they fit very well around the head and they all come with Zeiss lenses in different colors. This is really a light and stylish sports sunframe that can be worn in the city as well! You can even put corrective lenses in most of the models!

There are seven different models, each of them come in three different colors.

Garrett Leight in Paris

In Paris I met Garrett Leight and Elena Doukas to see the Garrett Leight glasses. It was great to finally meet them since we at Bonocle like the frames so much! We had a great time and talked most of the time so I kinda forgot to take pictures.

What I can tell you is that great things are about to come! I am really really excited! Garrett is doing a great job, there are few models but all of them are truly well executed!

You can read more about Garret Leight’s frames here and here and stay tuned for future posts about Garrett Light!

The Brooks in a new color.

The Harding. Perfect shape. Perfect colors.

Thom Browne New York

An evening on a rooftop in beautiful Paris I had the opportunity of seeing Thom Browne‘s first eyewear collection.

Thom Browne is a New York based fashion designer. His suits look a littel bit awkward consisting of pants so short they show the sockless ankles, and jackets ending right below the waist, not covering the back. The suit colors a mostly gray and matched with a tie in the same fabric.

For his sunglass line he teamed up with eyewear brand Dita to make one of the most detailed and finest eyewear collections I’ve seen. Details such as perforated splatter shields and tri-colored cable temple ends are made in such detail it’s absolute perfection. The shapes are round, oval, aviator or wayfarer in the style of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. Have a look and enjoy both the detailing in Thom Browne’s eywear and an amazing Paris Indian summer evening.

Net shields.

It’s in the details, especially if you are the only one knowing it.

The sunglasses in the very back have flat lenses. Hot!
